Jacob the male parent of Judah and his brothers,(H)

3Judah the father of Perez and Zerah, whose female parent was Tamar,(I)

Perez the male parent of Hezron,

Hezron the father of Ram,

4Ram the father of Amminadab,

Amminadab the male parent of Nahshon,

Nahshon the begetter of Salmon,

5Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab,(J)

Boaz the male parent of Obed, whose female parent was Ruth,

Obed the begetter of Jesse,

half-dozenand Jesse the male parent of King David.(K)

David was the father of Solomon, whose female parent had been Uriah's wife,(L)

7Solomon the father of Rehoboam,

Rehoboam the father of Abijah,

Abijah the father of Asa,

eightAsa the begetter of Jehoshaphat,

Jehoshaphat the begetter of Jehoram,

Jehoram the father of Uzziah,

nineUzziah the male parent of Jotham,

Jotham the father of Ahaz,

Ahaz the male parent of Hezekiah,

Manasseh the father of Amon,

Amon the father of Josiah,

12After the exile to Babylon:

Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel,(O)

Zadok the father of Akim,

Akim the father of Elihud,

Matthan the begetter of Jacob,

16and Jacob the father of Joseph, the hubby of Mary,(Q) and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is chosen the Messiah.(R)

17Thus there were xiv generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and xiv from the exile to the Messiah.

Joseph Accepts Jesus as His Son

18This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about[d]: His mother Mary was pledged to exist married to Joseph, only before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.(S) xixBecause Joseph her married man was faithful to the police, and still[due east] did not want to betrayal her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce(T) her quietly.

twentyOnly after he had considered this, an angel(U) of the Lord appeared to him in a dream(V) and said, "Joseph son of David, practise not exist afraid to take Mary home equally your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21She will requite nativity to a son, and yous are to requite him the name Jesus,[f] (W) considering he will save his people from their sins."(X)

22All this took identify to fulfill(Y) what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23"The virgin will conceive and requite birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel"[yard] (Z) (which ways "God with us").

24When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel(AA) of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home every bit his wife. 25But he did not complete their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.(AB)
